The Philadelphia Police Department has been jolted by its forth death in the line-of-duty in 2008.
Sergeant Timothy Simpson, 46, a twenty-year veteran of the Philadelphia Police Department, was pronounced at Temple University Hospital shortly after being involved in an automobile accident near Aramingo and Allegheny Avenues on November 17, 2008, at about 10:30 PM.
Sources say that Sergeant Simpson was responding to a "robbery in progress" call when his patrol car was hit on the passenger side by a vehicle driven by William Foster, 41/W/M, from Levittown, Pennsylvania.
Foster was subsequently charged with homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence and other charges, according to Deputy Commissioner William Blackburn.
This tragedy is compounded by the fact that Sergeant Simpson was assigned to the 24th District, where his friend and fellow supervisor, Sergeant Stephen Liczbinski, was also assigned when he was gunned down responding to a "robbery in progress" call on May 3, 2008.
Sergeant Simpson is survived by a wife and three children.
The thoughts and prayers of the entire Domelights.com community are extended to Sergeant Simpson, as well as his family, friends and co-workers.

The Philadelphia Police Department is mourning the loss of Police Officer Patrick McDonald, an eight-year veteran assigned to the Highway Patrol Unit, who was killed in the line-of-duty as a result of gunfire.
While details remain sketchy, it appears that P/O McDonald was shot on 9/23/08 at approximately 1:45PM, after he initiated a car stop in the 2100 block of Bouvier Street. Officer Richard Bowes, a 12-year veteran also assigned to the Highway Patrol Unit, responded to P/O McDonald's subsequent "assist officer" call and confronted a suspect running with a handgun near the 2200 block of N. Colorado Street. Gunfire was exchanged between the suspect and P/O Bowes, resulting in the death of the suspect and a hip/leg wound to Officer Bowes.
P/O McDonald was pronounced at 2:08PM at Temple Hospital. Officer McDonald was single and lived in Northeast Philadelphia.
P/O Richard Bowes was listed in stable condition with a hip wound. He is married and has three children.
The suspect, who was later identified as 27-year-old Daniel Giddings, was wanted by the police in connection with the prior assault of four police officers.
Officer McDonald is the fifth line-of-duty death suffered by the Philadelphia Police since 2006.

Santiago Convicted AGAIN for the Murder of Officer Thomas Trench
On May 28th , 1985, Philadelphia Police Officer
Thomas Joseph Trench was assassinated execution-style at 17th and Spring Garden
Streets by a piece of subhuman garbage named Wilfredo Santiago.
Today, one day shy of the twenty-third anniversary of this
atrocity, a jury convicted Santiago for the murder of Officer Trench.
May Officer Trench and his family finally get the peace
they have been denied for almost twenty-three years.
Congratulations to Assistant District Attorney Carlos Vega,
members of the Philadelphia Police Homicide Unit (active and retired) and the
entire prosecution team for successfully bringing Santiago to justice.
